Lots of new laptops - do you care?
Lots of new laptops (aka ‘ultrabooks’) have been launching recently. Are you buying one? Or upgrading to iPhone5 and squeezing another year out of your existing “good enough” laptop?

“The desktop and laptop markets aren’t going to bounce back”
This article (link) is dead on. I’ve been shouting this POV to anyone who will listen for the past 2 years, so it’s great to see an increasing amount of mainstream validation.
Let’s add another credit to Clayton Christensen’s Innovator’s Dilemma theory. It’s taken a while, but more and more of the industry is finally waking up to the fact that mobile computing devices are “good enough” for an increasing number of consumers.
Disruption comes from the bottom, not the top. No matter what Intel/HP/Dell/etc. say, their current initiatives (ex. Ultrabook) are nothing more than incremental innovations on existing platforms. Michael Dell has his head in the sand if he thinks that just because he’s still selling a lot of PCs, he’s not on a sinking ship.
The good news for all involved in the PC ecosystem is that there are ways to adapt to the innovator’s dilemma. Unfortunately for them, all require structural (organizational/incentive/etc) changes to your company. None of the major PC players (Intel, Microsoft, Dell, HP) have shown in the past couple decades that they are capable of such dramatic changes.
Technology continues to be an exciting and dynamic industry, which is why those of us in the industry love it. Just don’t ever forget that it’s exciting and dynamic. That’s a guaranteed way to disruption, no matter how big and powerful you may currently be in the industry.

Silicon Valley here we come
It's been a crazy 6 months, but we're finally starting to settle in to our new home in Silicon Valley. It's been quite the ride. I've found that no matter how much you hear and read about this area, you can't fully appreciate the tech vibe without actually being here.
I came across an article earlier this week that describes it pretty well. Worth a read if you have any interest in Silicon Valley or entrepreneurship.

"the Valley’s overwhelming bias toward optimism remains one of its greatest assets"
